Great Glen 2008 is in the history books. The 4 man sport team ended up about in the middle of the pack for the finish I think we ended up with 23 laps. The team was made up of Tim, Ken, Greg and Dan.. This was Greg?s first mtb competition and I think the second 24HOGG for Ken and Tim it was either my 4th or 5th I can?t remember. We all worked well together and had good lap times on the modified course. It was shorter than previous years due to the wet weather the weeks before the event. I have never been on such a muddy course. Both of my bikes are out of commission and my legs are banged up and sore from all the running, walking and carrying of the bike. It was really funny how some parts of the course got better during the event and other parts got much worse. Drive train problems, and light problems were the main issues on our team. At the camp we had great food and a campfire to help keep us warm. Many family members and team supporters helped us out during the event. A special thanks to my wife Helen for the great food and pictures (coming soon). Also thanks to my team mates for their great efforts. One look at the pictures and you?ll see the hard work each of them put into racing this event. Personally I ended up in pretty good shape, no major crashes, no broken bones no major lacerations just the usually bumps bruises and scrapes of a mtb race. Sunday night it did take some extra effort to remove mud. I never knew mud could stain your skin. I think I?ll be finding mud for weeks to come on me, my equipment and bikes. If it does not come off soon I?ll just assume it?s a freckle. The expert team was amazing to watch, their skill and determination is truly impressive. Congratulations to you boys. Next year a Team Pinnacle Master 4 man.

We drove north into the rain with a car packed for foul weather. The clouds were swirling above as we pulled into Camp Pinnacle, but no rain. Brain and Mark had made the trip early to claim the usual high ground which really paid off this year. We quickly pitched a tent and headed to Gorham's best Chicken Parm.
We woke to cool temperatures and breaking clouds that gave way to perfect race weather. A lite spin of the course revealed that the carriage road were in great shape, but the single track was a greasy mess.
Brain had a good run around the lake and put in a sick first lap time of 41 minutes, hot on the tail of Team Sandbagger. Mark, Aaron and I put in strong times for our first 3 laps, but by night time we found ourselves in third, 20 minutes behind last season's #2 (4-Men Expert) The Clammy Chamois.
By now first was way out of reach and second didn't look attanable either. Fighting for third wasn't in the race plan, so spirits began to dampen.
After the usual night time excitement from my brother (he managed to get his vest, which was stowed in a rear pocket, rapped around his rear wheel and drive train) we found ourselves in front to the Clammy's.
Unwittingly they had set up camp next door and Helen had been eves dropping from her tent. She discoved that they had many bike problems and were having to run their strong guy on double laps .
Now the Team got series and put the hammer down finishing 7-8 in front with a strong second place finish.
Race Highlights
1.The animated highs felt by all who had just completed their lap.
2.The dread and lifeless lows of those who were waiting to head out next.
3.The perfect weather we were blessed with
4.The Sunday 1:15PM torent that unleashed during awards
5.Team Pinnacle's tent city complete with a travel trailer & generator
6.The families and friends that made the trip and kept thing lite/fun
7.Brian kicking in the competitive spirit Sunday morning
8.Mark putting down solid times while working the family front
9.Aaron sucking up 3rd shift double for a third year in a row
10.Tim, who following a girl through the woods for 1.5hour lap claiming his light didn't work, yeah right!
11.Greg finding the virtues of a light bike
12.Ken sharing his tent with 2 brothers in stinky spandex
13.Dan telling Lilian that Story Land was closed, making her cry and then spending the next 15-minutes sucking up to the kid.

Another really great weekend for Team Pinnacle at the 24HOGG. We waved the CCD flag long and proud, raced with a friendly sense of humor, made friends and left a mark.

Who's racing the 100?
Any takers for the T Valley Rally?

Congratulations Expert Team! Your spirit, skill and determination was awe inspiring to watch. Great job Sports Team! You all did great hanging in there under those conditions. It was a fun weekend and I am glad I could be there to witness it. I do apologize for slacking a bit on the photos but they are all posted now and I hope you enjoy them. Sorry Aaron for not catching you this time riding - I'll have to work on that  (are you sure you rode?)

Thanks Julie for sharing the RV as well, that was great. I look forward to seeing your photos (hope you caught Aaron just to prove he did ride  )

Here's hoping the next race has great weather!

Congrats to TP for a job well done AGAIN.

Boy did you guys get lucky with the weather this year, that must have been the longest period without rain this month.

I just finished uploading the pictures from the weekend--here's a link until they are added to the photo gallery: http://picasaweb.google.com/Julieinnewport/24HOGG

What a fantastic weekend we had! Sooo much fun until the very end--you Team Pinnacle men are just amazing! Thank you for allowing most of the Collins family to participate in such a grand event. I really enjoyed hanging around the campsite and getting to know all of you better.

Coming home to such a tragedy as we did put a damper on things, but in no way spoiled the exhilaration and sportsmanship that we shared over the weekend.

Congratulations to all of you on a job well done!

THanks guys for a second year of fun at Camp Pinnacle, what a window, no rain during the race, but plenty on either side. Ken, I'll be back next year, count me in!! The trails sucked from the rain, but we all had the same conditions to endure.
Nathan, my light really did die on me................
I have to say thanks to Heidi from the Bow Chicka Wow Wow team for letting me follow her in. Next year, I will take at least 3 lights as this has been my nemisis two years running.
Thanks to Dan for being our captain, great photos Helen. Thanks to all for good conversation and hospitality.
