Well, its now almost 2 months since I hurt my left wrist in my little fall off the bike, and I think I finished it off Friday night. I was playing with the kids on their swingset and I was gently swinging and holding my 18-month old in my lap (with my bad hand) and holding onto the chain with my good hand. Well, he got off and my 5-year old, now jealous, wants the same treatment. Against my better judgement I agree. He squirms onto my lap, we take a few swings, and then the seat slips out from under my but. What is the instinctive thing to do? Why reach out with your free (in my case left) hand to grab the other chain to keep from falling, of course! I do just that with my left hand. I grab hold (keep in mind I have a brace on), the left hand takes 1/2 the accelerating load of me plus my son now, I feel a sharp popin the wrist, and then excruciating pain. I honestly thought I broke it - swelling, throbbing, the whole nine yards. Went to Dartmouth Friday night (I called the orthopedist on call and he was kind enough to see me in the ER), took X-rays (still not broken!) and examined me. He thinks the original injury was a partial tear of the ligament that holds the two forearm bones together, and that I finished the job of tearing them Friday night. My left hand is now completely useless! The MRI for the original injury was scheduled for this Thursday, so at least I won't have to wait long. If nothing else it should be much easier to see what's wrong! Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh! Joe
