This may not be a good time to ask after we've all just spent a few hours in the woods getting our beloved Pinnacle ready for riding. However... The Lake Sunapee Road Race is May 19th, and needs about 65 workers on race day to make it happen. The race is co-sponsored by Claremont Cycle Depot Bike Club, and the Sunapee/S&W Race team. Chris Naimie is the promoter is this historic event. Please support this race by vounteering to help. On race day, we need help with registration, corner marshalls, driving pace vehicles, and driving wheel vans. Those of us that wish to race can help with setup the evening prior. You can always recruit a friend, neighbor, relative, or total stranger to help, especially if you're racing. Pace vehicle and wheel van drivers are given detailed instructions and gas money. It's a fun way to watch a race. Please respond in this forum if you can help, or email Chris at CNaimie@Bownet.org. Chris, I'll help with setup, and while I'd rather race, I'll work registration and/or drive a wheel van on race day if needed. MG

Julie, Sandy, and Janet, It would be most helpful if you ladies could help out with race marshaling. One place that is always in need of aware people is the intersection of 103A and 103 (i.e. the southern tip of the lake where the racers make their highest speed turn). We need one marshal at the intersection, one just up Rt 103A to wave a flag so the marshal in the intersection can let the police know racers are coming, and one marshal in the area of the trading post to help with traffic in that area. Nathan, I recall that you were available to marshal in the Newbury area and that you requested somewhere in the vicinity of Baker Hill Road/Bloggetts Landing ... that would be great! I will let you know what detailed assignment would help most as the day draws near. Mark, Dan, PJ, others(?) It would be excellent if you could handle the course sweeping and help with the set-up of the start/finish line on Friday, May 18. It would be nice to get 2-3 more people involved in this activity. ANYONE ELSE! There are still slots to fill in marshalling, at registration, and driving pace/follow vehicles. Please let me know that you are interested by responding to this forum! Chris

Julie, Sandy, and Janet, Please come to the corner of Parking Lot #2 at Mount Sunapee Resort that is closest to the start/finish banner at around 8:00AM on race day (May 19). Someone will be there handing out marshalling packets. They will give you everything you need as well as final instructions. Thanks, Chris

John Lambert will be at the mountain for setup at 4:00 on Friday afternoon. Handy tools to bring include a metal bar and hammer for driving stakes. Brian, if you can't make it, may we borrow your leaf blower? I'll try to scoot out of work a little early, but should be there no later than 5:45. After setup, we should be able to get out for a lap around the course. Thank you to eveyone who is helping! Mark

A big thank-you to all who have offered to help with this Saturday's (5/19)race. Below is an email from John Lambert describing setup and teardown duties. I will try to get to the Mount Sunapee Ski Area between 4 and 4:30. If you're reading this, and you haven't "signed up" to help, please consider it. There's plenty to do during setup Friday evening, and Saturday morning we still need Marshalls and drivers. We'd really appreciate any help we can get! Mark Thanks for offering to help with set up / teardown at the Sunapee bike race this weekend. I will be at the Sunapee ski area access road at 4:00 Friday afternoon. Help was asked to be there by 4:30. We will need to put up fence and signs and power at the start line, 2 0r 3 people. We will need to place signs on stakes around the course at cross roads and dangerous areas. A hammer and an iron bar would be helpful. I will have one. Also while placing these stakes we should sweep the course is we find glass or a lot of sand or gravel on the course. Typically it is only a few spots. It would be nice to have one group 2 people, travel in one direction and another go in the opposite and meet half way. This should be done in about 1 1/2 hours. Time and weather permitting we hope to take a short, one hour bike ride. Saturday morning at 7:15 we will finish setup meeting at the start line. We need to block the exit road and place cones on the entry road to divide traffic. We also will erect the start banner and tent, finish line on road. this should take about one hour. 4 or five people would be good. At the end of the race we need to go around the course and take down out stake signs as well as the eight 4x4 foot signs that were put up earlier this week. 2 people and one truck would be good. Will need to drop start banner ASAP and remove sign cover and blockage starting at upper end. 3 people. Thanks again and hope to hear from you soon John Lambert, Pres. I have kid duties Friday afternoon and Saturday after the race, so the only time I could help would be in the morning before the race. Right now I am battling the flu, so I don't know if I will be racing. If I can't race, then I will either be a marshal or drive a pace car. "If you brake, you don't win." Racer Mario Cipollini

Went for a ride around the race loop this evening and was happy to see the pavement was replaced on 103A, It's not smooth but it sure beats the gravel.

Thanks in advance for all of your hard work this weekend to help make the 34th Annual Lake Sunapee Bike Race. We have over 525 racers registered to compete. It should be a great event! Chris
