If anyone is interested, I'm heading up the Pinnacle today with Alpine gear and snowshoes to check out a little backcountry fun. I'm headed out by 10:30am so call or email me directly. FYI, might be a snowshoe trek tomorrow as well. Ryan

The snow on the Pinnacle is dense and great for breaking trail, as you don't sink into all 16" or so inches we just received. The snow on Coit is a little trickier and more wind effected, but still fun as you don't have to worry about hitting much underneath. The "whomping" sound heard in the snow pack was very interesting. A sign that there is instability in the snow that would lead to an avalanche on steeper slopes. Nothing to worry about in our territory, but good training for back country travelers of every nature. I had a chance to tour yesterday morning and although it was windy and cold it was a blast being out in the woods on such a great trail system. With this kind of snow pack exploring every square inch off trail is a possibility. Get out and break trail on this increadable weekend! Fresh tracks to all, Nathan :D Alone in the woods, who stands to be King?

A big thanks to Mark for braking trail for me. I had a lot of fun despite schlepping in 11 pound alpine ski boots and carrying 15 pounds of alpine skis plus a pack, but the 3 runs down the northeast side of Pinnacle in 16 inches of virgin pow made it all worth it. Camradery was good as well as the coverage. I don't think I would have got 3 runs in 2.5 hours without Mark "Snowshoe Rabbit" Gurney blazing new trail for me. Thanks again Mark. Coit is just waiting to be skied. Who is in for tomorrow? I'm thinking strictly a snowshoe to brake in new trail and possibly beat down a path to Coit. Ryan

A nighttime trek sounds good to me. When do people want to do it? -- Ken "If you brake, you don't win." Racer Mario Cipollini

Good to hear you had some fun runs in the woods, I'll have to check out where you've been cutting your turns. Another spot to try is the old Newport Ski Club Trail, cut by the CCC, it's narrow, rocky and steeped in ski history. :wink:Nathan Alone in the woods, who stands to be King?

Nathan, you'll have to explain where the old Ski Club Trail is, I have no idea. Ryan
