---Lance's next big adventure following the New York City Marathon: the Leadville Trail 100 (mile) Mountain Bike Race next August. "That marathon was nothing compared to slogging it out on a mountain bike for nine-plus hours at altitude and in the rain," said his coach, Chris Carmichael, after riding the event this year. "I guess I got him to accept the challenge." The Colorado sufferfest includes more than 11,000 feet of climbing at altitudes between 9,500 and 12,600 feet (3,337 meters at 2,882-3,822 meters). Carmichael finished in 9 hours and 18 minutes for 93rd place overall. Out of the maximum 750 starters, 509 beat the 13-hour cutoff. The winner recorded 7:13. It'll be fun to see what an aging (35) seven-time Tour de France winner can do. "If you brake, you don't win." Racer Mario Cipollini
