I'm just wondering what the thoughts were about starting to get out on the road bike? Usually I've waited till late spring, but I've got that itch. Just wondering what the thoughts were about using the road bike vs a mtn bike.

Matt If it's in the 40's and the roads are clear I will take out my winter road bike which has fenders and a little fatter tires. It's just a cross bike with fenders. If it's colder and sloppy maybe the mountain bike and will do some dirt roads. I put on over 100 road miles the last week of February with the good weather. Also got out a couple days in January. Mid to late week it looks like we may have some good warm days to get out.

Matt, I only have ONE road bike  and I don't wish to replace it anytime soon. I wait until the snow is gone and a good rain has washed away any remaining salt from the roads. If I feel the itch to ride before that happens I take out my old mtb with skinny smooth tires. The skinny smooth tires allow you to crank at near road bike speeds.

Matt, I only have one road bike and ride it year round in some pretty nasty conditions. Rinse it off after the ride and lube the chain and you will have no problems. Ryan is right though, the bike will last a long time if you never ride it.
