Matt, I'm with Brian on this one. Time Pedals are the best as they release the best in all conditions. I have used Shimano mtb pedals and am not a fan. I also use the same pedals and shoes for both bikes, it just makes life easier. I suspect a top end, expensive, road bike pedal would be better for really long rides and for sprinting as they have a larger platform, but I don't own a pair and probably won't anytime soon. I have used several pairs of lower end specialized shoes but honestly I like my Nike mbt shoes the best. For me I find they are more comfortable and have less vibration on the road. But really what you want is the best fitting shoe you can get and everyone's feet are different so find the one that fits and works best for you. FYI, don't over tighten your shoe straps as this leads to very uncomfortable feet fast. At least for me it does, as my feet get hot and tend to swell a bit when they do. Hope this helps. Ryan
