In addition to writing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and lending her name to the Pinnacle's Hale Trail, Sarah Josepha Hale, also was the driving power behind making Thanksgiving a national holiday. Her essays and editorials, which promoted a day of thanks, union, and harvest celebration, were published to the general public. Additionally, she wrote letters to President Abraham Lincoln, encouraging him to establish a national day whereby all Americans could give thanks. In 1863, the final Thursday in November was declared as Thanksgiving. Maybe that is why the turkeys keep trying cover up that trail this time of year? They are still not happy with the fact that she helped establish a holiday centered on eating their kin. [img:7c60f52a7e]http://www.team-pinnacle.org/albums/bc_personal/120x90.png[/img:7c60f52a7e]
