It has been ten years since Team Pinnacle's first members first attempted to race their mountain bikes. Here is a picture of me at the Skinny Cat Scramble. This was an EFTA race in Southern NH. Note the cotton T hiding my less than slim gut, awesome hiking boots (they came in handy on the climbs), bull horn bar ends, and wheel reflectors. The bike was a '98 Schwinn Mesa bought from a new little store in Newbury called OutSpokin' for $400. Brian-- If you still have that bike I think you should ride it in the Prologue TT for the Stage Race............ and maybe the hiking boots/t-shirt too. It would honor the 10 anniversary.

Ya, Tim, that would be a commemorative showing of how much he has improved since that first season's encounter with MTB. I know that I have learned a lot from following Brian, among other long time TPers, around the trails in the last couple of years. Just to show how much Brian has improved his skills since that day, here he is last year; looking fit, wheeling a newer model and doing a demo at the Glouscester Grind http://www.team-pinnacle.org/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album02&id=P1000305

Since Brian is going down memory lane I?ll add my thoughts and pictures. The first is a shot of PJ, Brian and Me at my first mountain bike race held at Bear Brook State Park. I think it was 2000 or 2001. The second picture is of a concerned and clean, what did I get myself into, Dan complete with arm protectors, cotton shirt and safety glasses. The last two are of a very tired and dirty me. Bike was a Giant NRS. ? [img:5a61b33106]http://www.team-pinnacle.org/media/images/forum/DanMemories1.jpg[/img:5a61b33106] ? This is fun. Here is a classic from my first adventure to Great Glen. Hot sweaty face met dry dusty plunge on lap one. I think I have some more old team photos on a disc at home to add to this thread. Anyone else have some old school gems kicking around? Dan, Speaking of memories, in your second picture with you on the bike, that is the fromt my white Chevy van to the far right (with either me or Ramon Leiva standing in front with the blue cap. We timed most of the EFTA races back then. That was when I was having thoughts of trying out the sport, but it took me another 5 or 6 years to do it.

More intriguing than the dirt, retro cloths or equipment is the look on individual faces. Brian's pain and determination can still be seen today as can Dan's WTF look of exhaustion after any excruciating event. It doesn't matter what level you are at, this sport takes it out of you. Alone in the woods, who stands to be King?

That sequence was taken at Webb's Forest going up the steep hill. It was a slow motion fall and it really hurt. Started wearing elbow pads shortly after that.

Dan's leg started bleeding before he even hit the ground!
