The Jobs Creek TT, the opening of the Team Pinnacle season long stage race is set to begin on Wednesday May 13th 2009 at 6:30 +/- at the Georges Mills Firestation.

Because of the short distance, we will go off in 15 second intervals, we will attempt to send the fastest off last, but will not have a clear idea at this point of what order might be best.

A group ride will leave the High School at 5:30 for a warm-up to get there if interested. If not meet us there at about 6:30.

I expect most of the times to be between low 10's to high 11's.

We have 13 signed up for the race at this point, with a potential for others.
I would advise taking a peek at the course before hand, as the beginning has a decent hill to start, then some rollers that can make or break your time.

Happy pedaling.

PS, the new local loops Jobs Creek TT/Prologue loop, is just another loop. You can post on that without fear of having your time locked in. Ryan created a whole stage race format, so when you record your time, you will have to contribute to a stage race first, then pick the loop, then add your time. From there, you cannot change it. The first stage opens up, I believe May 1st, and on the 13th there is the group ride to do it, but it can be done before then or after.

Did anyone use aerobars in their practice run? skinsuit? fancy helmet? etc?

None for me, but I might put them on for race day.

No to all three and etc. I think aerobars will loose time for anyone. I tried it last year, but I had better results just tucking on the downhills ready to shift into hills.

You have me thinking about the skinsuit, though. Maybe I can drop a minute eliminating the drag.

You looked serious last night Dana coming up the hill. I just had gotten back on my bike, I broke another chain climbing the other direction. That's the third chain I have broken riding the Roubaix. Each time I almost fall and crack myself on the bars.

Sorry to hear about the chain, Dan. You'll have to put less pressure on it on those climbs, or get a better chain.

I was just drilling that hill, and Lovering on my way there. You shocked me at the top. I sprinted the rest of way over the top, then I coasted from that point.

I should see you on the Pinnacle later.

Went out after work with a modified Springfield loop to Jobs Creek and at the top of second hill broke another new chain. This time it was the Tarmac with a new Dura Ace chain earlier in the week it was with the Roubaix and a SRAM 1090 chain. This sucks. Damn near crash each time. Helen to the rescue again. I'll never get a practice time down.

Sounds like Dan has risen to super human strength this year. Let's hope he doesn't get this chain thing figured out otherwise we are all in trouble.

Just kidding Dan, breaking chains sucks. I went through a few on my Mtb early on but started buying stronger chains and that seemed to solve the issue.

One small rule modification for this loop. The end of the loop will now be at the blue sign, probably 15 yards before the guardrail. Its a bit safer and shorter! Well by a second.

You can do a non-rolling start if you want but I will not be wasting 10 seconds trying to get my shoes to clip in.

OK that's fine with me thanks. Don't forget to push off too.

I tried again today to get a time down and my stop watch messed up. That makes 3 attempts with no time. It felt fast though.

A little recap here:

I posted a 10:59. My friend and teammate Dana then posts a 10:58. When I see his post, I decide he is no longer my friend. Shortly thereafter, I ride a 10:57.85 with a standing start, finishing at the guard rail. PJ graciously declares my time to the blue sign to be 10:56, which is at least a second too optimistic, but I won't argue. And Dana is now my friend again.

Of course, Dana promptly posts a 10:55. My verbal outburst, while at the computer, has caused my children to learn the phrase "You're shi**ing me!"

We are having fun, and the race hasn't even started yet!

Cheers,

MG

Oh I didn't see that,, good point wait to post.....

So we have some rivalries going.......Dana and Mark, Brian and Dan, I'd mess with Burbridge but after seeing him on the single, I better not. I'd mess with Ken too, but not sure there is enough MTB stages for me to make up ground.

Maybe this, there is no way any of you should lose time to a 205 pound cyclist in a prologue where there is an uphill. there take that.

I got tired beating up on PJ tonight so I got my excuse.

I'm looking for about 12 minutes on Jobs Creek. I could do better if I got to start at the top of the first hill.

Hey Mark,

After I stopped laughing my @$$ off reading your post, I had to admit this. I had to post one second faster just to give you incentive not to post your first time, hoping you'd see it right away. Now, I probably won't break 11 tomorrow. I'm using hay feaver or a cold as an excuse if that happens.

We're still friends and teammates for all other events, but TP stages makes us competitors and rivals, so let's have fun with it. Some where along the way of this stage series I'm sure there will be pacts to get at the top echelon going forward.

Do we have a start list ? I need to know who I am chasing, or who is chasing me?

Do we still have 13 riders?

I want be in front of Dan, I don't want to have to swerve around his chain.

I am back in business. At noon today I did a leisurely 12min re-con of the course and didn't break a chain and after an hour on the phone with Polar yesterday I have my watch working again. I will be surprised if PJ's projection of 5 under 10:30 holds, that's really fast from looking at the trial times already posted. Saw Dana's post about the cold medicine and I think that's just an excuse to try and throw off the drug testing at the end of the race. It won't work Dana even with a doctors note.

Hey, my doc prescribed the med for me, I had no idea what was in it.

I think PJ is in charge of the start list or we just draw straws.

I will give a preliminary start list, If I offend, sorry, if I compliment, again sorry. Spots can changed by mutual agreement and in a cash only transaction. Projections are based on times posted, educated guesses and complete and utter confusion.

6:30:00- Lauren Launen (first race with the guys, expect a good time)
6:30:20- Adam Sharp (runner turned part-time biker, watch out)
6:30:40- Jason Cycledepot (untested, unseen, possible darkhorse)
6:31:00- Ryan O'brien (downhill extraordinare)
6:31:20- PJ Lovely (uphill extraordinare)
6:31:40- Tim Trotter (hopefully he won't catch me on the first hill)
6:32:00- Mark Gurney (if he is here)
6:32:20- Dana Waterman (best time last year)
6:32:40- Nathan Richer (mtbiker forced to play with us)
6:33:00- Ken Wiley (fastest time posted this year)
6:33:20- Dan O'neill (he won't hear the baseball card in his spokes)
6:33:40- Greg Burbridge (fastest time not posted)
6:34:00- Brian Currier (Is the stage too short to show his fitness?)

PS. If there are any others out there who would like to join this race, please come on down, we would love to have ya.

10:32.09 Rode every hill like a sprint finish. Rolling Stones "Dance little sister dance" is a great tune to have in your head.

I'm off to Arizona for a week, I will very much miss the prologue. I expect full reports - and I also expect most, if not all, of you hammerheads to beat my time. It's just a question of by how much.

By virtue of the fact that my post is first, right now I am in first place. You are all 10:32 behind me!

Cheers,

Thanks Dan - but I stand behind my prediction. Most of you will beat me. I expect to read some sub 10's. Just the adrenaline of the race should be worth 15-30 seconds. Have fun!

Mark there was some sort of error, not sure why it was happening but I think I fixed it. At any rate, you time is in there.

FYI, for those new to Local Loops & Stage races, after you are happy with your time, you only get one shot at adding a time,

1) Login to the Forum
2) Click on the Local Loops link at the top of the page
3) In Local Loops, click on the Contribute Link
4) In Contribute, click on the Add Time Link
5) On the next page make sure you select the last option "Stage Race Time"
6) Select the stage to add your time to on the next page
7) Enter your time data and click submit

I might be missing some minor steps here but that is about the gist of it. Your to verify you have entered your time corectly you can then click on the Stage Race link, then the view link for the stage in question and your information should be listed there.

I'm hoping to be out with you all for the adrenaline rush, but I was a little weary climbing the stairs this morning. I may have to make a serious attempt when I return from California.

I'd like to see Brian's synopsis of the side effects transfered to the top of my head. Sun burns up there are horrendous, but currently I can put my head down to the handle bars providing less resistance.

Way to go Mark, I knew you were better than that 10:56. You just needed a little rival juicing to get you to kick it in. You are now in the realm of time where I am not sure I can better you by a second.

Nathan, I see you are holding up to the press release PJ provided. Good Job.

With the times from Mark, Nathan and Ken, there is some pressure on the rest us. I'm beginning to think PJ prediction may not be for wishing, but the reality is that we will see at least five under 10:30. If anyone breaks 10 though, they will have to have a really strong flawless ride.
