Anyone interested in carpooling to the Farnum-5 race? There is limited parking so it would be good to get there early.

This race had a nice level start for about a mile and half. Almost half the field were stung by bees and some multiple stings with highest being five., but we all survived. Then came a steep uphill for about quarter of mile. The rest was up and down which made us work. The finish was a steep downhill for over a half a mile, which I bombed with Randy in my sights all the way.

Chris Martin won, Adam and Nathan were less than two minutes behind him. Randy did well while still recovering from injury with me 8 seconds behind him and 52 seconds behind the 50&over winner. Then Mike Moody 47:26, Chris Naimie 50ish, Tina 1:07ish and Laurie W 1:16:00.

In retrospect, I'm not upset I didn't do the race, bees SUCK!

Congrats to all who ran.

It is not the sting(s), but the itching that last for a week and keeps you up all night. I only had one stinger in the back of the knee, but Laurie got four, two on each ankle. They're driving her nuts with the itching.

If anyone is interested. For the most part, competitors have not had to finish in first place to lead their respective series' division. As noted below, Mary Mancuso is the only racer to have won her division all four times. This series has been fun and I look forward to next year. I've heard it could expand to more events.

Men 12-19
Kody Spencer of Ascutney Vt has this division wrapped up.

Men 20-29
Adam Sharp of Sunapee has to have at least a tenth place finish to win his division, if Danny Ferreira (once list Newport as hometown, now Concord) if competes at New London. David Cahill and John Murphy also have an outside chance to take the division.

Men 30-39
Chris Martin of Newport has to finish ahead of Erik Stange (first winner of SIX in the STIX 2006) to win this division. Michael Fenzel could take it if the top two don't show on race day. Chad Denning of New London has competed in and won two events holding fourth place.

Men 40-49
Steven Andrews has to finish the next event to capture this division. Mike Moody of Newport has to finish within 34 points of Nathan Richer (3rd) to keep second place.

Men 50-59
Randy Waterman of Sunapee would have had this divison sewn up if not for injury. Meanwhile, I, Dana Waterman slipped into the number one spot, but will miss the last event to stay sharp for the PC. Kris Garnjost could take over first place if he wins the last event.

Men 60-69
This is a toss up, since no one over 60 has completed more than one event.

Women 12-19
Alisa Hubert of Newport is one of three with 100 pts, but this is another division with no repeat racers.

Women 20-29
Raina White of WRJ, VT leads this division over Amber Cullen (once listed of Newport, now Concord), but five competitors could take it if there are no shows at the Pleasant Climb.

Women 30-39
Jody Diemar of New London was a no show in Lebanon, so she only leads Kelly McKenney by 12 pts. The only two vying for the division title. Lori Richer of Newbury sits in fourth place, but has missed the last two events.

Women 40-49
Tina Naimie of Bow, NH (recently of Sunapee) leads Laurie Waterman of Newport by 50 pts. They have one-two wrapped up, but Tina has to complete the last event within 49 points of Laurie to keep first.

Women 50-59
Mary Mancuso of Cornish Flat is the only competitor to have won the first four events and captured the series by XTERRA (third event).

I have to say the course was really fun, even with the yellow jackets (I got stung 3X).
The climb onto the saddle between Farnum North & South Peak was steep like the ski jump but much longer.
The trail system gets much lighter use than the Pinnacle, so the ground cover was difficult to get a definate read on what you were stepping on.
The hammer down to the finish was soft pine needles that was tough on the quads.
Lots of food at the end, Poverty Lane Apple Cider Wine for podium finishers along with great weather and you couldn't have a better start to the morning.

Ryan, I hope the new trail work toward Salem's Lot was worth it. Must "bee" they get pesky this time of year. I remember being stung at the bottom of the ski jump stairs about this time last year.

It's worth it!

They don't exactly like it when you start disturbing their home. Fortunately this one is a couple feet off the trail, but I was trampling through it to remove trail debris, which seems to be more often the case. I have been stung on almost every new trail I've worked on, especially this time of year, it's just par for the course.

I got my on Salem's Lot, too. When I was hanging the sign at the junction of Brake Burner, I was apparently standing on a rock that covered a fine nest of them. They came out and greeted my ankles with some warm, itchy butt poison.

I guess we need an addendum sign at each end of Salem's Lot:
