I was thinking that it would be pretty cool if you guys hosted a race weekend next year a la Moody Park. Sunday would be the xcountry race as usual but you could kick things off on Saturday with the first ever cross country downhill time trial. Everyone could meander up the hill at any pace they choose to the staging area at the old course crossing. We could take off every 30 seconds.....blast down the double track to start....turn right into the sinsletrack for a little bit of climbing before hitting the pump track and the downhill with the clock stopping at the bottom of the plummet. I know I'd make a weekend of it.

I like the idea. So it would be just like a Wednesday night group ride? Dan

This is a pretty good idea, that may infact help boost attendance. We had "The King of Burlington Time Trial" early in the year. This race was limited to 100 racers and filled that quata weeks before the race. They, in fact, have gotten permission from the park it's held at to increase to 125 riders next year. They race Expert Male, Expert Female, Sport Male, Sport Female in that order in the morning. You are assigned a starting position according to your previous time. They send the faster riders either by fast time or age groups 19 to 39, 40 to 59 and 60+. There were no youngins in the morning. The Beginners/Novice raced after we were done. I do think the capt has something here cause thats just the way I raced Sunday took my sweet old time going up and enjoyed the sweeeet ride down. Have to give it to you all for such fine work and trail design but mostly for not holding the race on the weekend I'm at Bristol, Tennessee.

We had a group ride tonight, and we agreed that it was feasible. We have done a few time trials down and a few up. If we offer the down, we have to offer the up, but of course you don't have to do both. Our 2 mile uphill takes us anywhere from 17 and change (Currier and Richer) to 22 minutes. That would be a good challenge. The downhill would almost have to be from the top of Coit (there is a quicker way to get there). That would probably take about 12-15 minutes I am guessing. Case of Bud to the downhill winner Case of Bud light to the uphill champ. Lots to talk about......keep the ideas coming.

How would you propose to do the timing?

Clipboard with stopwatches. Everyone checks in at the bottom and gets a number. They go off is sequence every minute. Once they cross the line you write their time down and subtract from the position they went off. We got a few math whizzes. Bottom guy and top guy in radio communication to start watches at same time. The first guy gets no time subtracted, the second guy 1 minute, and so on. Works the same for Downhill. YEs keep it American, maybe we can get Harpoon? PJ

For arrowhead's DH we have 2 riders on course at a time, 1 min apart, and use a couple radios and stopwatches. Of course our DH course only takes 2 min for our top guys (and about 3 for the slowest!!) If you say DH, you will get a few of our crew over to play (especially if you don't have to race up!, and even if you do, ben moody might come out and stop everyone, like he does at Moody-arrowhead)

I had actually thought about doing this at Arrowhead a while back. Tim is right, this could be a little (made for TV) mini series... we could hold a "points" event with 2 man teams (an up dude and a down dude) and still keep it fun and local with one event at the Pinnacle and one at Arrowhead. If this is something that you guys want to do and you need/want help, you can count me in for sure. As Tim also mentioned, I'm sure that I can scrape together a few others that would be willing to lend a hand as well... www.masonracing.com www.gtbicycles.com
