This topic is going to be about creating the new Pinnacle Map. I have created a Photo Gallery for the maps so we can upload the status in steps. I have already uploaded images of the map as of today

Check it out, let me know what you think. We need to get together to decide trail names, fix segments, ect.......

At this point the map is pretty much useable, but far from finished.

We should try and schedule a time when we can get together for a couple hours, with refreshments, and come up with trail names, fix any mistakes in the map, ect.....

For me, it will have to be after the new year....time is tight right now to swing it, plus I will need refreshments come January.

Hi all,

I have made a new map with the GPS data collected by Ken W. and others whom I would like to credit. I would appreciate any feedback in order to make it better for all. I ask Ken via email, to post it in the photo gallery, hopefully that can happen, but in the meantime you can view at:

Thanks,

Tim,

Good stuff.

At some point, The weekend after the challenge we will be getting together to go over the map, naming trails, ect. It would be great to have you there. This map is a great starting point, combined with the work already done by OB, Wiley and Waterman, we are looking good.

I probably get weekly inquiries on this new map and when will it be ready. It looks like soon.

I think it would be best if we all waited until we met to give you feedback. What I am thinking about might not mesh with others, so a consensus would be great. We all are looking for a map for the public so they do not get lost. This map combined with updated signage will really aid in that effort.

[b:86fa0811cb]I'm riding in Cornish Wednesday. Whatever you guys come up with is fine with me.[/b:86fa0811cb]

Don't forget to come up with a name for:

* the soon to be finished trail that starts on Barton Woods and will connects into Pine Link (Outer Limits / Cornish Tribute),

* the newer trail that starts on Barton Woods and connects to Baptist Hill (East Boundary) not on the map, used for the Challenge,

* the new trail used for the Pinnacle VIII (Backdraft), starts at Coit Sumit and connects to Brake Burner.

* the short trail Brian (?) put in near the Water towers to avoid Summer street not on the map.

* the water towers might want to be located on the map, being a landmark.

Also some of Dodd's roads are reflected as trails on the map.

Tim no fault of your own, most of this stuff was never GPS'd or was put in after we GPS'd.

Also I was thinking it would be cool at some point in the future to come up with a dedicated heritage map that shows the location of all known places of interest and a short write up on them augmented with place markers at the sites???

Just some quick thoughts.

Points of interest are important to identify. All the cellar holes, big rock, top of pinnacle any free ride stuff, boardwalk, ski jump, any significant stone walls , golf . Since in the long run this map will be used by a variety of people. Also distances of main trails. Easy and challenging walks. Names are good but color on trees should be used to ID main routes.

Some names already being thrown around, and starting to find homes.

Brian's trail- now Whip N' Spur. The original newspaper of Newport.

Grenvilles' Eastside- Ryan's new Outer limits used for challenge. The original name of Newport.

Coit Summit Trail- Remains Coit Summit trail. Unless there is another catchy name that honors Vance Coit.

Colby Cut- Another prominent Black Settler that lived on Coit. Salem Colby Starts at Fern Alley and connect back to Summer Street (formerly 3 rock)

Pinelink may start from Barton Woods and extend all the way to Bear Trap. Possibly Pinelink N and Pinelink S.

Outback trail- Now is Cutting's Outback trail. named for the farm settlement in the back where we start into outback.

We are trying to simplify the map a bit, and eliminate (at least on the map) any short side trails, or unused trails (skunk hollow)

We need a name for the road that goes up to The Pinnacle. A possible renaming of Roots, noname, and inner north. We need to clean up Brake Burner trail area for naming purposes as well as the Barton Woods many trails.
